Running Update 25th January 2021

Back to work and back into a routine. The summer holidays are lingering and the memories have not yet faded. 

I’ve got some big plans for the year with my 2021 goals set. Now is the time to continue to build, establish good practices and ensure that I achieve what I have set out to accomplish.

According to Strava, the workout tracker and social network platform, it was found that in 2020, January 19 was the date that the majority of people had already given up on their New Year’s resolutions. But not me. Not us. Although I may not achieve all my goals for the year, to run the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB) will require ongoing commitment and a can do attitude. Even when the going gets tough.

I would encourage you, if you miss a day, fall off the bandwagon or hit the wall, keep going! Start again. Jump back in. You won’t regret it.

As you can see from my activity log below, I was able to book in a couple of workouts with friends. Yes, some of these sessions may be slightly less than what I would have done otherwise. However, I felt even better for doing them. After all, the purpose of this blog is about achieving your goals and encouraging others to reach theirs also! 

I may not want to workout with friends on every occasion, but for those readers who solely work out by themselves, I would encourage you to find a club, team, or make a friend who is keen to exercise together. Parkrun is a great place to meet like minded others (find out how here). Alternatively, post on a Facebook running group and ask if anyone is keen to go for a run in the “Woop Woop” general area. It’ll be a physical workout with an added mental health benefit. 

In some surprising news, that I had not envisaged at the beginning of this period, I entered the Two Bays Trail Run 28 km with 4 days notice. Not something that I would normally do due to the minimal training I had done in the weeks prior. Taking it fairly easy, it was a great day out. I ran with a mate and was able to support another as he crossed the 56 km finish line. A well organised event with some amazing volunteers. Stay tuned for my race report which will be coming shortly.

If you ever get the chance to enter, the Two Bays Trail Run of either distance is a must!
