August 2022 Running Update

If you’re new to Journey to Chamonix, then welcome to my monthly running update! 

Each month I track my progress to my goal of running in the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB), which I’m hoping to achieve in the next few years. Qualification races, lotteries and a Strava load of training to do first though. For the latest progress read on!

Since last update

So you might have been able to do some detective work by the image on this blog post and deduce that COVID-19 finally got me. If you did, you’d be correct.

On the whole it wasn’t too bad. I think I had it milder than most. I had a week off and was then able to run again, albeit much easier than the rate that I had been training at. 

Once I was feeling better, I was able to do a good 33km long run in preparation for Melbourne Marathon – the event that I’m targeting at the end of this training block. I ran well and hardly missed a beat. 

Just as the month of August was coming to a close, I came down with a fever. I had a high temperature, sore throat and headaches. I felt like I had Covid-19 all over again! 

I finished the month feeling frustrated. With 2 separate weeks of sickness, I’m hoping that this hasn’t impacted my training block too much. I’m still aiming for Sub 3hr for the first time for the Marathon but I may need to reassess. Here’s hoping everything will go without a hitch and I’ll snag that Sub 3!
