June 2022 Running Update
If you’re new to Journey to Chamonix, then welcome to my monthly running update!
Each month I track my progress against my goal of running in the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB), which I’m hoping to achieve in the next few years. Qualification races, lotteries and a Strava load of training to do first though. For the latest progress read on!
Since last update
June was a big month for Ultra Trail Australia (UTA) planning as well as checking out some local Parkruns.
To gain entry into the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) I need to complete a UTMB World Tour event. I’ll be targeting the 2023 UTA as one such event.
Although the 2023 dates have not been released yet, I did a little investigation into the accommodation availability in Katoomba, the blue mountains town which hosts the event. I found that several of the accommodation options were already booked for the equivalent weekend in 2023 that the 2022 event was held. So, I booked refundable accommodation for it! Maybe a tad premature, but there is limited accommodation available in town so I wanted to lock it in. So keen to complete the largest trail run in the Southern Hemisphere!
As per my recent post on how my 2022 running goals are tracking, I’ve been targeting completing as many parkruns as I can as well as being a tourist and exploring several others. This month I was able to visit Mullum Mullum Parkrun, as well as a relatively new one in Warrandyte. Both events were quite different but thoroughly enjoyable.
Warrandyte took us along the Yarra River with a couple of out and backs. I even managed to snag a win for the event! Still 2 min shy of the course record though…
In June, I also bucked the trend and purchased Strava Premium. Still not sure if I’ll get my money’s worth from it (I think the free version is pretty great) but we’ll see. It’s been providing several additional insights into my training for the Melbourne Marathon that I’ve been excited to see.
That’s about it folks. Still just head down, bum up as I prepare and work through the training block for the Melbourne Marathon. Stay tuned for a couple of lead up events I’ve entered in July.
Thanks for checking in on my progress and all the best with your own workouts and events you’re planning for January! Check out my Race Schedule for more detail on other events I’m looking to tackle in 2022 and beyond.
