Running Update 19th October 2020
Since my last update, not much has changed. My knee has continued to give me dramas.
I’ve been to the Physio which is not something I normally do. But, if I’m to get back on the right track, I need to look after my body so it’s in the best condition it can be.
I got my list of stretches to do. These were largely around strengthening my knee and other areas in the affected area. Injuries should be minimal going forward if I continue to strengthen it and take care.
I am reminded of a “virtual training session” I took part in recently.
“An injury is not due to only one cause. It is likely a combination of causes. Load management, lack of sleep, footwear, terrain, strength of joint, flexibility and form may all contribute.”
Going forward, I’ll try to address some of these areas more to minimise the possibility of injury.
I have been doing the stretches assigned to me by the physio, but I do struggle with them largely due to:
- Motivation; and
- Failing to plan.
Often, I’ll get into bed and realise that I haven’t done them. At that stage it’s too late for me. I haven’t missed the opportunity, but sleep is always looks a little better.
Does anyone else find doing stretches hard? How do you make them happen?
This last month marks the least amount of running I have done all year. Yes, due to an injury, but it will leave me well short of my goal to run 2020 km for the year.
I have tried to find ways of running which puts less pressure on my knee. I am fortunate enough to have a local footy oval not far from home, so it gets a workout. I have found that grass running is a bit easier on my knee than bitumen.
Again, I am not aware of an injury that I have had that has lasted this long. I’m still just taking it easy to get through this difficult time in my journey and get through to the other side. I know that it will be better long term for me to rest up, take it easy, spend time with my baby and enjoy the break.
How have I progressed
- I have been doing stretches! mostly.
- My knee is healing – gradually but i can feel it getting stronger.
Stats since last update
- 5.62 km around my local footy oval
- Regular stretching
