January 2022 Running Update

If you’re new to Journey to Chamonix, then welcome to my monthly running update! 

Each month I track my progress to my goal of running in the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB), which I’m hoping to achieve in the next few years. Qualification races, lotteries and a Strava load of training to do first though. For the latest progress read on!

Since last update

January was going to be all things Pier to Pub. Frustratingly COVID strikes again. The move to a virtual event was very disappointing however not entirely unexpected.

Instead of a day out at the beach, with a 1.2 km swim thrown in, it was a trip to the local pool for a few not so quick laps. Even with the ocean roughness and the difficult visibility that entails, I think I would have swam quicker if it was a live event. I ended up with a time of 20 min 12 sec. 

Not bad but not great. 

I’m keen to do Pier to Pub live at some point, hopefully 2023 is the year to do it!

Now onto my running. Parkruns we’re back in 2022 and we made the most of them through the month of January. Lillydale Lake, Westerfolds and Phillip Island all were destinations as I ran a couple of PBs. A great start to the year indeed!

The next race of the cards is the Kilcunda Half Marathon. Yes I am returning again after a challenging event in 2021 – read about it Here. I don’t have big goals for the event as I’m working through my training block in preparation for my next adventure.

Overall it’s been a good month. PBs, virtual Pier to Pub and a great start to an exciting year of running. Who know what the year ahead will bring… and that’s the exciting part!
