November 2021 Running Update
If you’re new to Journey to Chamonix, then welcome to my monthly running update!
Each month I track my progress to my goal of running in the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB), which I’m hoping to achieve in the next few years. Qualification races, lotteries and a Strava load of training to do first though. For the latest progress read on!
Since last update
Only a few more sleeps to go before the Surf Coast Century! Yes, I’m excited! Yes, I’m nervous!
Throughout November, I completed my final long runs – not as many (or as long) as I was hoping for. I was at Phillip Island for a weekend and I thought I’d be able to sneak in some of the sand running (that I had been lacking for the majority of my training). I ran a half marathon, half of which was on the beach, but I pulled up quite sore after. I needed a few days recovery as a result which was not the preparation I had been hoping for!
With the Surf Coast Century only a few days out, I have been finalising my mandatory gear, clothing and equipment I want to run with. You’d have have thought I’d have done this sooner with all the preparation time I have had! I want to keep the weight in my running hydration pack to a minimum but to also ensure I’m not missing anything I need during the run. It’s a balancing act!
As I look beyond the racing, I’m also building up my shoe rotation. I found some Nike Pegasus 38 on a great sale and thought I’d give them a try. So far so good! On my first run with them I had the laces done up a little tight so it initially hurt my feet but this was easily remedied. For the price point, they may not be my last pair – I do tend to churn through the running shoes quite quickly!
I’m feeling confident about the Surf Coast Century, the biggest race of my life. I’m looking forward to it and excited for the opportunity to be a part of the amazing event. Watch out for my race report coming soon after!
Thanks for checking in on my progress and all the best with your own workouts and events you’re planning for December! Check out my Race Schedule for more detail on other events I’m looking to tackle in 2022 and beyond.
